Each semester Recreational Sports employs a number of students to work as facility supervisors, lifeguards, student assistants, sports officials, and field supervisors. Work study and non-work study positions are available. No experience necessary. Training for all positions with the exception of a lifeguard will be conducted by the Recreational Sports Office. Graduate Assistant/ Fitness&Wellness (Handshake ID# 1161802)

Greet patrons and serve as a source of information. Enforce facility policies including eligibility, equipment use and reservations. Set up equipment for activities in the facility. Familiarize patrons with cardiovascular equipment and selectorized (pin loaded) weight equipment. Record participation counts. Address risk management issues, injuries, and incidents. Perform and/or report maintenance and custodial needs. Register participants for various programs and process financial transactions. Assist supervisors and professional staff as needed.
Supervise indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. Assist in supervising entry-level student personnel including training, review of timesheets, and assignment of duties. Open and close facilities, record participation counts, lead in addressing risk management/safety issues; be knowledgeable of all departmental policies and lead in the example of enforcement. Liaise with program supervisors and assist with facility reservations. Use of computer for reporting purposes. Perform other duties as assigned by professional staff.
Group Fitness Instructor
Teach assigned class; set up/store equipment needed for class; promote Fitness/Wellness classes to campus community; complete records as needed; keep supervisor apprised of safety/equipment/maintenance/customer concerns; assist in training new instructors; stay current on industry trends; use recommended instructional techniques from recognized professional associations; maintain positive customer service relations with patrons. Students that hold a certification with a nationally recognized organization will be given priority in hiring. Each year certification workshops are held on campus and are open to TAMU-CC students at a reduced cost.
Personal Trainers must hold a current certification. Schedule individual sessions with clients to assess fitness levels, instruct proper exercise techniques, duration and intensity for cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training.
Supervise and maintain pool facility. Practice preventative lifeguarding techniques; respond quickly to all emergency situations; assist with risk management issues; assist with pool water/chemical balances; promote the program to the campus community, serve as a source of information and maintain good customer relations; enforce facility policies including eligibility, equipment use. Attend required in-service training, maintain good physical conditioning; keep certifications current. Complete all necessary reports and keep supervisor informed of any maintenance, incident or patron concerns.
Provide general office coverage including answering telephone, filing, computer operations, registering participants for various programs. Serve as a source of information and promote the program to the campus community. Cover equipment room, assist with risk management issues and perform other duties as assigned.
Officiates major team sports for Intramural contests. Attend all training meetings and on-field clinics. Learn rules and mechanics of the sport. Inform patrons of policies and procedures. Complete necessary reports. Stay alerted and use preventive officiating techniques. Maintain control of games, resolve conflicts as needed. Assist with set up and breakdown of game equipment. Assist with risk management issues. Establish and maintain positive customer relations.
General responsibilities include promoting the program, record keeping, scheduling and directing personnel for events, working with agencies outside of the department, soliciting sponsors, publicizing events, use of a computer. Particular responsibilities will be determined in conjunction with the professional staff member responsible for the program and current needs. Categories include Sports Club, Intramural, Marketing, Fitness/Wellness, Maintenance.
General responsibilities include working with the rock wall, outdoor gear rental and helping to organize outdoor trips and clinics. Volunteer opportunities as trip leaders also exist for individuals who have completed the trip leader training program.
Other positions exist within the department on an as needed basis: CPR/First Aid/AED instructor, WSI, etc. Ask a supervisor about specialty opportunities.
